The school year is coming to a close and I just have to share some of the work that is being made at Blue Ridge Christian School. This has been my 8th year teaching art to elementary school students, my third year teaching middle school students, and my first year with high school. My high school students amaze me. Young men and women of exceptional character, they are funny, thoughtful, talented, and hard workers. To say I am proud of them is an understatement. Though this is my last year at BRCS, I will ALWAYS remember the past three years with great fondness. The BRCS staff, my students, and especially those in this first high school class have impacted my teaching and my heart.
Many of these students had never worked with clay before I introduced it their seventh grade year. That year we used air dry clay (not my favorite) and students learned some basic hand building techniques. In eighth grade they gained more understanding of hand building and a few students were able to take a field trip to Bridgewater College where they learned how to make pieces on a potter's wheel. This year, as ninth graders, the students created ceramic shoes. I love how this project turned out!
